Blur event dispatched when pasting with forcePlainText or cleanPastedHTML

@moteey That didn't work for me in the following scenario:

const inst = new MediumEditor(...)
inst.subscribe('editableBlur', function (event, editable) {
        if (event?.srcElement.innerText === '%ME_PASTEBIN%') {
           // innerText here is empty
        }
});

then pasting something dispatches blur event

And it should not?

Looking at my example just above, if you have an empty input for a "comment reply" scenario, which should cancel the replying mode on blur (when no text added), when pasting something it will actually cancel replying, which shouldn't. That's my use case. And weirdly enough, it fires the blur before paste when pasting with CTRL + V but not from "right click => paste".

@nicks Hello! I'm Interested in the Medium.com editor. I have looked at many alternatives but it wasn't quite the same. I wanted to make one myself but didn't know where to start. would you (or the group) open source the editor? Im sure that it will help many people including me. Thank you. Best Regards, Tahir

As an alternative to not using execCommand, a workaround for typical cases (works on Safari and Chrome, the fiddle doesn't run on Firefox) is to turn off custom styles during the action.

https://jsfiddle.net/y4x3vu61/1/

Not sure if we want to have this kind of dirty stuff. Also, we may need to extend the reset styles when new cases are discovered.

I tracked this down to a call to execCommand('insertHTML') here: https://github.com/yabwe/medium-editor/blob/9156a11407451c0ee2e30d971798d6476de4d354/src/js/util.js#L457

Unfortunately, this is a browser issue, reproducible on Chrome here: https://jsfiddle.net/y4x3vu61/ It also seems to happen for example with execCommand('insertOrderedList'). We probably would have to get rid of all affected execCommand calls.

Unsorted node styles disobey the rules described in [Why ContentEditable Is Terrible](https://medium.engineering/why-contenteditable-is-terrible-122d8a40e480)

Description

In the post Why ContentEditable Is Terrible, it stated that:

When we translate markup ranges into DOM nodes, we sort them by type: A, then STRONG, then EM. We will never print a STRONG tag containing an anchor. We break it up so that the anchor contains the STRONG tag.

However, I found that this editor doesn't obey this rule. May I ask why?

Medium-Editor in NextJs not initializing it seems

Description

I am trying to use medium-editor 5.23.3 in NextJS like the following:

`import React, { Component } from 'react'; import MediumEditor from 'medium-editor';

class Editor extends Component { render() { const editor2 = new MediumEditor('.editable'); console.log(editor2); return ( <div className="editor"> <div className="editable" /> </div> ); } }

export default Editor; `

Now the console.log shows medium editor but I dont see anything on the page. The div is empty. I load this Editor component using NoSSR:

const EditorNoSSR = dynamic(() => import("../../components/common/Editor"), { ssr: false });

Any ideas?

Versions

  • medium-editor: 5.23.3
  • browser: Chrome
  • OS:Ubuntu

It's sad to say but Medium Editor might have lost it's way, but We're coming back up soon!

@literakl I would highly recommend installing github's Stale bot plugin (https://probot.github.io/apps/stale/)

It would automate the process of clearing out the older issues that have not been closed, yet are so old that may no longer be of active concern. Basically it would ensure that the only issues that are open are active ones. That's probably going to give this project a better starting point than having 300 open issues that can't possibly all be addressed.
