Welcome Scene

Scenes: ———— An official EML "welcome to VR" tutorial

From watching some new users at the Showcase and in drop-ins, I think there are some easy things we could do to improve the new user experience so people can prep in about 5 minutes before jumping into our projects.

This is a big project! Fortunately, there are some quick and easy things we can do: mimic the Oculus experience to highlight buttons on the controller when they're pressed, write a list of best practices we can follow when making new VR experiences, and so on.

We'll need to think through some features that would make it easier for new users to figure out what they're doing when they enter VR. There could even be a recorded voiceover, but these are all features that can be added.

What should it look like? Let's decide. A forest? A grassy field? Someone's apartment?

Idea by: @catherineomega

Note: We'll probably want to break this up into multiple tools and tasks. This also fits more into the SampleAssets section than tools

Yup, that would definitely be useful, I can work on that. Should it be more of a UBC Launch Pad Design System section then branding can be under it?

Yes, I can document that in the Figma file that I will be making! Is it possible to add your comment to the other issue?

Clean up LP Design system on Figma

Yup definitely, I will link it once I finish cleaning it up. I'm probably going to make a new project so that people don't have to go through the old figma project (Since its quite disorganized and hard to find stuff)

Medium: I've updated the publication logos and branding but I don't have access to the LP account that makes articles to change the logo there.

Reddit: I don't have access to this account

Linkedin: I've updated the logo, just have to update the banner.

Make sure that you are **watching** all relevant repositories so that you don't Make sure all designers are given "editor" access to the [shared Launch Pad Design subfolder](https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1Zfe25r3D77hGdyMkj0tlxHNa-r7fAq1d), which is owned by the `team@ubclaunchpad.com` account. +Also, if your team decides to use google drive, make sure you are added to that by your project lead. Also make sure that you are linking your gdrive assets to your Github repository for easy accessibility.+ ### Figma -TODO+Make sure that you have a Figma account which you can create here: [Figma](https://www.figma.com/). It's completely free to use, web based and its the best collaborative design tool out there!+* You can also download the Figma app on your desktop here: [Download Link](https://www.figma.com/downloads/)++Other alternatives available out there are Adobe XD and Sketch. If you plan to use any of those tools, it is recommended that you import your designs into Figma so that you can share your prototypes and wireframe files with your developers. ## Workflows +The Agile Method is the workflow that teams in LaunchPad usually follow. It is important that you familiarize youself with this type of workflow especially working in cross-functional product teams.

Oh you got me there, forgot to add in the link!! Nice!! haha

See [our Slack guide](/handbook/tools/slack.md) for more details. ### GitHub Teams -Make sure you are a part of the GitHub team [`@ubclaunchpad/design`](https://github.com/orgs/ubclaunchpad/teams/design), and check that you have access to the [Design repository](https://github.com/ubclaunchpad/design) - this repository contains (some) design assets, resources, and tracking issues.+Designers should have a presence in Github to know what is going on between product teams. First step would be to make a [Github](https://github.com/) account if you don't have one!++Second, Make sure you are a part of the GitHub team [`@ubclaunchpad/design`](https://github.com/orgs/ubclaunchpad/teams/design), and check that you have access to the [Design repository](https://github.com/ubclaunchpad/design) - this repository contains (some) design assets, resources, and tracking issues.++Third, make sure that you are added into your team's Github repository by your team's tech lead.

update project timeline

This timeline is a *new and proposed* timeline, and will probably change based o ::: * **Week 0**: Brainstorm ideas and start to consolidate around one or two ideas- * Designers will focus on user testing and prototyping+ * Designers will focus on user research+ * This will involve activities like ideation sessions, interviews, personas, journey maps, user stories, sketching & heat- map voting.+ * Initial ideation will involve the whole team (coming up with ideas & possible features)+ * Designers may also ask developers to help with interviews and surveys to get more data. * **Week 2**: Finalized project pitch and MVP writeup- * Designers will continue user testing and prototyping with a focus on the MVP+ * Designers will start wireframing and prototyping with a focus on the MVP+ * Week 2: Mid-Fi Wireframes & prototype should be done by the end of the week.+ * Week 3: User testing on Mid-fi Prototype.+ * Week 4: Hi-Fi wireframes & Prototype should be done.+ * At any point, always upload your finished designs (Mid-Fi & Hi-Fi) to your centralized drive for developers to access and always alert them when you have done so. * Developers will start implementation work * **Week 5**: A *functional* MVP based on initial idea and prototypes * Teams should start asking people to try initial implementation and give ideas and feedback * Designers should start work on collecting feedback based on the implementation, branding, and improving the MVP+ * Week 5: Continue user testing with the MVPs & may start playing around with microinteractions, branding.+ * Week 6: Start with branding (Logos, Name, Colours, UI Library), keep developers part of your branding ideation (let them do voting, this is their project as much as it is yours!)+ * Week 7: Finalize branding, name, logo etc.

Mhm yes, I see what you mean! I intended it to be more of a guideline that they don't have to follow. Usually, we go off track when needed (like exams, or other things). In my experience, it's quite daunting to start on a project without having a specific guideline you can follow at first. I think that outlining this for designers will help them visualize where they need to be at a certain point in the sprint!

And yes, this is solely for designers! I understand that developers will probably have a lot more varying paces, I just want to make sure that design is able to finish everything they need to so that they can give time for developers to code and implement.
