Upldoaded a GIF on Giphy without logging in, is it visible to everybody now?

So i recently wanted to quickly create a gif, the first site i found was giphy and it went really smoothly but then the gif i created suddenly was filed as "uploaded". Now im really worried because it is a gif i made for private use, is that gif visible to everyone on the site now? because i really dont want it to go around... i hope this is the right platform to ask that question, was also the first one i found on google :s

Hi @Hisoka1000

We did not / do not add anonymous content to GIPHY search. Also today, users cannot upload content anonymously anymore. This way you have a whole suite of tools to upload and control access to your content.

Hope this helps.

Random Endpoint returns incomplete GIF Object

The GIF object returned from the random endpoint seems to be missing the 'embed_url' property. I have confirmed that this is the case using the API Explorer provided on developers.giphy.com as well as in my own app. I have not bothered to check if there are more missing props.

Since the GIF object returned by the get by ID endpoint does include the 'embed_url' prop, I am using it in a work-around where I request a random GIF then use the ID from this response to re-request the same GIF (this time with a 'embed_url' prop) from the get by ID endpoint.

How do i get an upload Api key (private or public) ?

Hello,

I have never used the giphy API before and am kinda lost, we are about to finish the development of our mobile game, and we decided to use this asset from the unity asset store to record and upload gifs to giphy : https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#!/content/90215?aid=1100l33US

After creating the App on the giphy dashboard, i got an App Key, but i can't find an upload key anywhere!

What am i missing please ?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

You should be able to use a single GIPHY API key for GET and POST requests ( i.e search and upload). Please note - we do not allow anonymous content upload. All content uploaded will be associated with the API key's parent account.

Definitely give it a try and let us know if you still run into issues. Thank you

Can we assign an appstore link to the uploaded gif ?

Hello,

Our game is almost done and we're using Giphy to let user upload and share gifs, the way we are currently doing it is that after uploading the gif, we ask the user if they want to open it in the browser, and from there they will have all the sharing options available from Giphy, we were wondering if there is anyway to have the shared gif include a link to the appstore ?

We can easily solve this by instead of redirecting the user to the Giphy website, we can just copy the Gif URL and then do a native "text sharing" and add whatever text we want, but we would like to keep the "go to browser" (or giphy app) step.

Thanks

Hi @Mastermind-sap You're seeing this error because your app might be using the sample API key we sometimes bundle with libraries/ code samples on public platforms. Please create your API key here & apply for production access to use our API without rate limits.

If you still run into the rate limiting, feel free to reopen this Github issue with more details.

Hope this helps.

403 error does not return CORS headers

Hi guys,

I am not sure if this is an issue or expected behaviour but CORS headers are not being returned with 403 (Unauthorized). This is the error you are getting if you've passed wrong/outdated API key. So because of this I am not able to properly handle the error.

With 400 error CORS headers are being returned though.

Hey @sergeykaikin

We we made changes to CORS header management fairly recently. We now return the required header for 403 errors as well. Please give this a try again and feel free to open the issue if needed. Hopefully those fixes help.

Thanks.

Uploading GIF by file requires source url anyways

Hello.

I've been trying to send a file via the Upload endpoint, using Firebase Functions and Node.js, but the response always returns { meta: { status: 400, msg: 'Bad Request - No Source Url', response_id: 'RESPONSE_ID' } }

Unless I've understood it wrong, the documentation says that the only fields I'm required to fill in are the api_key, the username (once I hit production and if I'll do that in the first place) and either a path to a binary file on the local file system or the remote url to another, via the respective file or source_image_url fields

I'm using node's http.request, sending the following application/x-www-form-urlencoded object via POST const postData = querystring.stringify({ 'api_key': API_KEY, 'file': fsPath, 'tags': tags }); where fsPath is obtained by downloading a temporary copy of a Firebase Storage bucket asset, deleted as soon as the request completes, via the fs and path node modules.

This only happens with files. I've already tested uploading by source_image_url and it works flawlessly, meaning I receive the ID back and can then use the JS API to obtain its variants back. Before you ask, no, I cannot upload the gif somewhere and send the link; I could do that with Firebase Storage, but that would also increase the upkeep and billing costs linearly with the amount of images I'll upload, and I cannot afford that.

Is the API supposed to do that? or am I missing something?

EDIT: Worked around the issue by using different node modules and methods, as well as streaming the file's contents as an array of bytes with an application/octet-stream content-type.
