switching to this color scheme will move the cursor

I installed several different color themes. I find that when I change to this colorscheme using command :color toast, the cursor will be moved to the first line of the buffer, which is really annoying.

To verify, use the following minimal config:

set runtimepath+=/path/to/toast.vim

Open neovim with:

nvim -u minimal.vim test.py

Put the cursor on other lines other than first line, active this colorscheme: :color toast. The cursor will be moved to the first line.

Fix a bug when setting highlight using the function s:hl()

We should use call s:hl() instead of exec s:hl(), which has side effects. See also https://github.com/jsit/toast.vim/issues/7.

switching to this color scheme will move the cursor

I think I have found the root cause of this issue. In this line, you use the following command:

exec s:hl("Type", s:type, "", "NONE")

which will first evaluate the result of s:hl("Type", s:type, "", "NONE"). But inside function s:hl(), you are execute some command. So the return value of this function will be 0 (suppose that there is no error during the execution of the function).

Now you are actually running the following command:

exec 0

this command is equivalent to :0, and it will put the cursor in the first line of this buffer. May be you mean call instead of exec?

Don't reverse MatchParen highlighting

Hi @jsit - really like your theme, but I noticed my eye getting distracted by the handling of MatchParen. Changed it locally, thought I'd share the change here in case you/others have found the same issue.

Don't reverse MatchParen highlighting

Reversing the highlighting makes cursor movement hard to follow.

Current Staring with cursor here...

Screen Shot 2020-11-24 at 5 54 53 PM

And then press l, where is the cursor now?

Screen Shot 2020-11-24 at 5 54 56 PM

B/c the light bg is used for the matching paren, the cursor appears to have jumped to the matching paren instead of to the (actual) cursor location over the (.

And w/ light background:

Changes After this change, the cursor location is more obvious:
