Prevent error when reopening markdown preview. (#107205)

Default to active group instead of throwing error when calling editorGroupToViewColumn(). This fix makes markdown previews behave like text editors when reopening. The error was caused when the preview was opened in an editor group that has since closed.

I am not sure why @sohomdatta1 solution was not accepted but here is another attempt.

delayed app-ready event

so I've been having having this issue with delayed appready event (it has been taking around 16-17 seconds as the startup performance was saying) for quite some time and I've been struggling with finding a correct solution (it didn't even go away after I uninstalled every bit of AV software on my laptop). but thank god, eventually I found what the problem was. apparently, if you have a somewhat recently released laptop, it will most probably have "nahimic" audio drivers. I actually haven't found a way to uninstall it (maybe installing a different audio driver will do but I haven't tried yet) but ending the "nahimicService" task in the task manager solves the problem for me.

Add XHTML support

<!-- ⚠️⚠️ Do Not Delete This! feature_request_template ⚠️⚠️ --> <!-- Please read our Rules of Conduct: https://opensource.microsoft.com/codeofconduct/ --> <!-- Please search existing issues to avoid creating duplicates. -->

<!-- Describe the feature you'd like. --> I write XHTML documents to be served as application/xhtml+xml. Visual Studio Code hasn't got XHTML on its list of supported languages, nor could I find any extension for it (only for generic XML, which is also supported out of the box). It recognizes the documents as HTML and helpfully provides syntax highlighting, auto-completion, hints and other appropriate features. But it also gets wrong some constructs not allowed in the HTML syntax, particularly CDATA sections (I put scripts in them, currently using comments as a (polyglot) workaround to avoid having Visual Studio Code holler at the whole script being a syntax error and deny further assistance with it: //<![CDATA[, //]]>; I also use CDATA sections for generated content which might contain ampersands and other oddities) and empty element tags for some elements (which it treats as opening tags, messing up the structure).

I've already consulted the collective wisdom of Stack Overflow on this, unfortunately without success.

Would you envision it as a mode, configurable in settings (and by default it seems natural to have the xhtml file extension trigger it), for editing HTML or a separate thing (possibly an extension)? Could it have the same features (like assistance with embedded styles and scripts, Emmet support) out of the box, or would constant effort to keep feature parity with editing the non-XML syntax of HTML be required?

Default .vscode Folder Location in %USERPROFILE%

<!-- ⚠️⚠️ Do Not Delete This! feature_request_template ⚠️⚠️ --> <!-- Please read our Rules of Conduct: https://opensource.microsoft.com/codeofconduct/ --> <!-- Please search existing issues to avoid creating duplicates. -->

<!-- Describe the feature you'd like. --> The default location of the .vscode folder is %USERPROFILE% (which can, to my knowledge not even be changed). The correct directory would be some subdirectory of %APPDATA% (i.e.%APPDATA%/Local/Programs/Microsoft VS Code, which is already in use by VS Code).

"10.4 Your app s data that is exclusive to a specific user and that is not to be shared with other users of the computer, must be stored in Users\\AppData" Certification requirements for Windows Desktop Apps, docs.microsoft.com

I'm not requesting some workaround or option in the settings. I'm requesting that the default directory be changed to comply with long-known Windows best practises, and if there's someone who should conform to these rules, it darn-well be Microsoft itself.

Kind regards.

p.s. Android Studio recently changed this as well

Ability to refresh problems

Hi. Wanted to suggest a small but significant improvement to displaying problems with VSCode.

VSCode currently shows problems like this. The thing is that, while all the problems were valid before, they are no longer valid (eg. I fixed the problem, renamed/moved/deleted a file and so on).

1

Now, to my knowledge, I don't find a way to refresh/recheck my workspace for problems easily (I have to either wait for the problems to automatically disappear at some point or restart VSCode to manually recheck the problems).

An refresh option in the problems pane would be nice to have when clicked rechecks the workspace for problems.

@olegKusov I watched the video again a couple of times and there is nothing obvious to me, sorry about that. But I'm happy to try to troubleshoot this. Could you try to create a CPU profile of the renderer? We could try to see if there's something standing out. Steps here -- https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/wiki/Performance-Issues#profiling-the-renderer-process

Terminal output div container should be more accessible for screen readers

I tested this with latest insider and am seeing some strange things.

  1. The input edit box is part of the document that contains the output. Is this intentional? I think this might be a cause of somewhat strange behavior here and there. I think I'd put the document role on the div with class xterm-accessibility instead.
  2. What is causing the automatic reading of the terminal? I assume a live region somewhere?
