issue commentharelba/q
Feature request: header detection
I might be good to give a warning in the documentation since backticks have a high probability to be used in q
and the vast majority of UNIX shells will evaluate them as subcommands if not properly quoted. But q
really doesn't have anything to do with the shell behaviour, e.g. if you use the fish
shell you won't have this issues even with backticks in double quotes because it doesn't evaluate them. If the backticks are evaluated by the shell q
won't even see them, so it can't give a meaningful error message and the error message you actually get (if at all) could be basically anything. Best advice is probably to know the quoting rules of your shell well.

Feature request: header detection
Hi, it would really help the documentation if the mention that you needed to use double quotes and single quotes this way was added to a specific example. It took me quite a bit of counter-intuitive digging to reach this ticket, although now that I have, I am very happy to have a solution that fixes my problem.
FYI for those seeking via google, the error I got was
query error: near "FROM": syntax error
-HTH
