dev: Apply css to pubs and add global className based on active element type

This does two simple things, resolving #1560:

  1. Adds custom scripts to Pubs
  2. Adds a classname to the body element based on the active element type in scopedata.

Test Plan

  1. Make sure custom CSS is injected into Pubs
  2. Make sure the body of every page now has a class matching its type (Collection = 'collection', Page/search/etc = 'Community', Pub = 'pub'.

Post-Release Gabe to replace Commonplace and Contours CSS with a new version he made (with compiled scss!) that applies the styles only to pages so nothing changes.

Custom CSS does not apply to Pubs

Hi Thomas — thanks for pointing this out. I am inclined to agree, and we'll add styling to Pubs as well in the coming days.

let's add a little bottom padding here (20px?). It feels a little cramped.

Also, I don't think we need the max width. I did the mockup that way only because I was lazily copying and pasting UI elements in screenshots, but it looks better and more warning-y, I think, all the way across the screen.

As is usually the case, @idreyn had a much better and PubPub-ier copy suggestion than the one I put together, which I think we should use:

Custom CSS lets you change the look and feel of your Community, but it also lets you introduce bugs that make it hard or impossible to use. The PubPub team may also make changes to our own source code that could break your CSS without warning. We don't provide support for problems caused by Custom CSS. Use caution (but have fun!)

Note that Custom CSS is not loaded on your Dashboard — including this page — so you can always return here to undo your changes if they are causing problems.

see: https://docs.citationstyles.org/en/stable/specification.html

What would this enhancement help you accomplish?

Produce proper citations for non-english-speaking users. Likely would be part of a larger localization effort.

Use abstracts for Pub Connections when relevant

What's your enhancement request?

If a Pub has an abstract and I add a connection to that Pub, it should use the abstract, rather than the description, as the "description" in the Connection card.

What would this enhancement help you accomplish?

  • Makes more sense to a reader to use an abstract if it exists.
  • No need to duplicate abstracts into the description of a Pub.

Custom Citation and Counting

Enhancement requests are requests to make changes to an existing PubPub feature. If you'd like to suggest a new feature, please post in the ideas section of our [https://github.com/pubpub/pubpub/discussions](discussion forum).

Before filing your enhancement, please search existing issues to make sure a similar one doesn't already exist. If one does, please leave a comment or reaction in support of the issue rather than creating a new one.

To fill out the request, please leave the below headers (**) in tact, and fill out each section. If a section isn't applicable, leave it blank or write n/a under it. Please do not delete any template sections.

What's your enhancement request?

When using the custom citation option for citations in pubs, the pub counts each citation as an additional, new citation even when it's identical, aside from how you choose for it to appear within the text. It's hard to explain. See this video: https://recordit.co/7orDcR2QwU

Each of those references are the same, but have a different appearance in-line and are this counted as a new reference in the list at the bottom of the pub

Custom Citation and Counting

We took a look today. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this is solvable, so I'm going to close it for now.

I believe the issue isn't with custom labels, it's that the citation is rich text, rather than structured, so we have no way to compare them to each other other than trying to make a string comparison, which would be fraught and unsatisfying. I believe that if the references were switched to a structured form like bibtex (with an ID) or DOI, we would deduplicate the bibliography with or without custom labels. And if we don't currently, that is something we could likely support.

We also discussed the need, somewhere down the line, to move to more of a robust citation management system where you can link citation nodes to a global citation database and make changes upstream that would be reflected downstream. But that's a ways off.

Request Publication Error

Thanks Sarah! We took a look today — it looks like this happens when users aren't logged in. We should either not show request publication, or prompt for login, if a user isn't logged in. We'll prioritize that fix in coming weeks. For now, the workaround is for the user to login before requesting release.

Upgrade katex to 0.13.x

There have been a number of improvements to KaTeX since we last upgraded, but also a few breaking changes. I think they will mostly be positive, but we'd want to do a bit of testing on HDSR in particular.

Summary of breaking changes: https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/issues/2490

Other cool stuff:

Error messages in 0.12.0 Pure MathML display mode Matrix support Align(at/at*/edat/edat*) support Equation support! More LaTeX-y color support
