new amd64 docker hub image build?

can we get a new docker hub amd64 image built?

the image there is now 5 months old. even if there are no changes to the repository here, there is a new version of alpine linux and a new version of samba. the new alpine version has security fixes. the new samba version has security fixes and also addresses at least one known issue raised here (#330).

current image: alpine 3.12 samba 4.12.2

latest: alpine 3.12.1 samba (in alpine packages) 4.12.9

this is my preferred samba docker container, i don't want to see it die from inactivity. thank you.

why do you think it is not alive, the last update was about a month ago: https://hub.docker.com/r/dperson/samba

also, which alternative are you looking at?

Last update I see is five months ago? And there are no replies from @dperson at the moment (hope he's just busy and everything is fine). Im currently working with the 'fork' from m4rc77 (see code above).

Status restarting

Build up the command as written on the main page. I need 2 shares from the hosting machine, one rw (exchange_box) and the other ro (log). All I get on docker ps -a is that the container is restarting on loop, even though I get no errors after docker run.

sudo docker run -it -e TZ=UTC --name samba --restart=always -p 139:139 -p 445:445 -d dperson/samba -p \
            -v /share/exchange_box:/home/pi/exchange_box \
            -v /share/log:/home/pi/log \
            -u "smb;123" \
            -s "exchange_box;/share/exchange_box;yes;no;no;smb" \
            -s "log;/share/log;yes;yes;no;smb" \

What am I doing wrong?

PIA VPN connection stopped working

I checked the latest OpenVPN files provided by PIA (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/openvpn/openvpn.zip) and the netherlands.ovpn file had two notable changes since last time I checked:

  • remote URL changed;
  • Certs are inlined.

I changed my Mediabox.ovpn file to match:

After the last restart, it works. I have to admit, I am not sure whether one of these changes fixed anything, or if it was just the restart. I hope it keeps on working, now! :)

PIA VPN connection stopped working

I'm using Docker compose, and my docker-compose.yml file starts with this:

version: '3.7'
services:

  vpn:
    container_name: vpn
    image: dperson/openvpn-client:latest
    restart: unless-stopped
    cap_add:
      - net_admin
    security_opt:
      - label:disable
    read_only: true
    tmpfs:
      - /run
      - /tmp
    ports:
      - "8112:8112"
      - "9117:9117"
    environment:
      - PUID=1000 # snooze92
      - PGID=1000 # snooze92
      - TZ=Europe/Amsterdam
    volumes:
      - /dev/net:/dev/net:z
      - ${HOME}/.vpn:/vpn
    command: -r '192.168.178.0/24'

Since about a week, it seems that my other containers that depend on the vpn container for networking (e.g. Jackett, Deluge...) are having network issue. I haven't change any configuration, I'm not sure why it stopped working...

I'm using this image:

$ docker images | grep vpn
dperson/openvpn-client latest 40876b9dd828 4 months ago 20MB

$ docker ps | grep vpn
c518b21a74ac        dperson/openvpn-client:latest   "/sbin/tini -- /usr/…"   32 hours ago        Up 32 hours (unhealthy)   0.0.0.0:8112->8112/tcp, 0.0.0.0:9117->9117/tcp   vpn

docker ps shows that container is "unhealthy", but I'm not sure what that is based on. When I docker exec in the running vpn container, local ping commands seem to work, but external IPs do not:

How can I troubleshoot this further?

dperson/samba image on windows 2019 server

I am trying to run dperson/samba image on windows 2019 sever in docker, but I have a problem with port 445: docker.errors.APIError: 500 Server Error: Internal Server Error ("b'Ports are not available: listen tcp 0.0.0.0:445: bind: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted.'")

Any solution?

I was having the same issue with PIA, and after switching to nextgen configs (instead of "current"), so far it's been stable.
