"How are the identity variables set" section is misleading for GitHub repos

Under the heading "How are the identity variables set" it states that unless using scheduled or manual triggering, when building from a git repository, the Build.RequestedFor, Build.RequestedForId, and Build.RequestedForEmail variables will be set to indicate the person who committed or pushed the change.

When I use these variables with a GitHub repository and push a new change, Build.RequestedFor is set to 'GitHub', Build.RequestedForId appears to be a UUID that (I think) maps internally to the GitHub repo that triggered the build, and Build.RequestedForEmail is an empty string.

None of those details indicate the person who committed or pushed the changes.

Workspace documentation contradictive

In the workspace section, there is a mention of the following folders:

  • Build.SourcesDirectory
  • Build.ArtifactStagingDirectory
  • Build.BinariesDirectory
  • Common.TestResultsDirectory

below this in the yaml tab, the following statement is made:

When you run a pipeline on a self-hosted agent, by default, none of the subdirectories are cleaned in between two consecutive runs.

However, a bit lower, in the same yaml tab, the following statement is done:

$(Build.ArtifactStagingDirectory) and $(Common.TestResultsDirectory) are always deleted and recreated prior to every build regardless of any of these settings.

Now these statement contradict eachother. And my tests seem to conclude that the first statement is true, since I got a file already exists error when running my yaml pipeline twice on the same private agent when trying to write data to the Build.ArtifactStagingDirectory

Can you confirm my findings or shed some light on my confusion?

What I'm trying to accomplish is to clean as much as possible, except for the git sources.

Dont see zone support in supported region.

I have a APIM in au east. I tried to extend this to multiple zones. However for both an existing APIM instance and a newly created one, when I go to location, I cannot find capability to add zones like we see on this page.

"Creator" role is still needed for the user who is trying to trigger the YAML pipeline when the environment doesn't exist

In the doc for the "Creator" permission role it says "Not applicable for environments auto created from YAML pipeline."

However according to my test, the "Creator" role is still needed for the user who is trying to trigger the YAML pipeline when the environment doesn't exist. Otherwise the environment cannot be automatically created and there will be an error showing like "Environment xxx could not be found. The environment does not exist or has not been authorized for use."
