cpufreq for apple silicon macs

Also, is python psutil also failing with psutil.cpu_freq() on Apple M1?

I don't have Python setup, but I would suspect it fails since they use the absent sysctl values. https://github.com/giampaolo/psutil/blob/master/psutil/_psutil_osx.c#L693

func InfoWithContext(ctx context.Context) ([]InfoStat, error) { // Use the rated frequency of the CPU. This is a static value and does not // account for low power or Turbo Boost modes.-	cpuFrequency, err := unix.SysctlUint64("hw.cpufrequency")+	cpuFrequency, err := getFrequency()

I've made this change; IMHO it was much more readable as a function.

App not working (Freeze) on device with Sailfish OS

I can test, but it seems that the build failed: https://ci.cgeo.org/job/cgeo%20pull%20request/4072/ I don't have access to Android Studio right now so can't try to fix it myself.

Rework storage framework acc. to Android 11 requirements

My opinion is the following:

  • Settings: I am preparing a PR to use AndroidX and thus I am defining the settings via SharedPrefernces. Absolutely no code should be reusable because I am just writing what I need, the rest is Jetpack doing for me.
  • Maps: I have built no knowledge there so far but I guess the same applies for this. What we are doing shouldn't be so complicated that we require a library for it. If I am at the point where I think a library is needed, I will ping again.

Regarding the rest... Well I will catch up when I am not on the go but we are not developing a new rocket thus I think everything should already be there. My personal motto is reuse instead od reinvent if reasonably possible.

got a publish mail for a brand new (thus most definitely not saved or viewed before) Lab Bonus

Side note: Over here (Bavaria) no new caches are currently published due to Covid-19. I was not aware that reviewers use different guidelines in different Bundesländern

[wiki] update info on "Send log to developers"

I think that this wiki page is not up to date (date 2015 and refers to android <4 1). Maybe it should describe a approach in steps:

  1. send description + system info
  2. change cgeo settings and send results see new Logging page.
  3. install additionally tools (alogcat?) and forward results Background: There is a user on FB who reports that the app is shutting down when opening live map.

Rework storage framework acc. to Android 11 requirements

Given recent discussions I would for now change the QueryMapHelper to return the c:geo map directory instead of the last selected map file. Some things to note:

  • If WYG is updated to use new mapsforge libs, I would suggest to also make it use inputstreams instead of files (like it was done in c:geo) as preparation for SAF
  • I would also suggest that WYG should instanciate a "combined" map with all files found in given map directory
  • Note that while right now map directory is a file uri, it will be a SAF tree uri (where WYG most likely need to get access permission by user) in the future
  • For the long run: it would be nice to factor out the whole map viewer code of c:geo such that both WYG and c:geo might be able to use it as some sort of library together. Same goes for settings and maybe there are other parts too. What do you think?

Webview - No other browser option if Chrome installed

I totally understand, that chrome shouldn't always be launched without a chooser or something like that.

On the one hand a second dedicated menu item would help here, on the other hand the overflow menus in cgeo are already way to long.

So what about adding a settings option for it (with custom tabs deactivated as default)? That would even give us the possibility to use custom tabs at all other places where we have the "open in browser" action if it is explicitly requested by the user...

Proposal to access certain map settings

IMHO the "settings" icon looks a bit lost there but I have no idea how to make it look better...

Could it be put in the header (like the "go to current position" and the "select map source" icon)?

I agree: My usecase: I want to check a certain area and use "All Caches". An easy way to switch "hide own/found" would be nice.

[Livemap] open in browser for UDC's

As UDC's can't be opened in a browser, this menu entry shouldn't be visible for caches which belong to the internal connector...

Yes, definitely. Way better than the current menu solution.

Perhaps even a "reset automatic route to individual route" option can be added there? And, yes, I'm aware that it may not perfectly fit in the context of this menu (in the eyes of a developer, i. e. with regard to the individual route context), but seen from the point of view of a not knowing user, it will probably make sense, to look right there ... and in fact disabling the route can be seen as a kind of hiding, too ... ;)

Ah, routing strategy - as one of the most often changed settings, at least over here - would also have reserved a place there ... IMHO.

I've played around a bit to find a way for displaying a popup for the hide settings. This is one possible solution, using a PopupMenu:

This menu is opened by tapping on the small "settings" icon at the map's bottom center. Several settings can be changed without having to reopen the dialog.

Would this be a way to go?

cpufreq for apple silicon macs

Yeah @Lomanic, I'm still trying to dig through and make sense of what Apple is doing here. There is probably a more correct way to get this value that is consistent across Intel/ARM macs but maybe only with cgo. If anyone else wants to play along, https://github.com/knightsc/darwin-xnu/blob/master/pexpert/arm/pe_identify_machine.c#L45

The value for SDK_INT to compare with was just a guess. So I prepared a new version (building right now) and put that into the system information (together with the check result). Could you once more check it out, so I can finalize at least this part? Than the latest version would again be usable with your workaround while I continue the modernisation of the settings.

@moving-bits If you want... After I am done with login checking I can add the support for V5... But that will not be tomorrow (metaphorically spoken).

@SchoolGuy Thanks for your offer, it would be really cool & helpful, if you could update WhereYouGo's mapsforge implementation to the current version.

Proposal to access certain map settings

I decided continue this discussion rather here instead of #9281

@MagpieFourtyTwo had mentioned the idea of customisable action overlays like it is done in Locus. I really appreciate this idea and would like to add my two (OK, they have become three after all ;-) ) cents:

  1. This action bar should be placed to the left and/or right of the screen as all other places are already used for displaying other information.

  2. As a first step we can can just fill it with the most useful features and leave out the customization part and add it in a second later on IMHO.

  3. Activating this overlay bar should be possible via the three dot menu, so it can be easily hidden if it's not needed right now and it takes too much screen space.

Ok, and for the hiding menu I agree that this should be a dialog rather a submenu...

Ignore cache function does not work for unsaved caches

Ok, another test case:

  1. got a publish mail for a brand new (thus most definitely not saved or viewed before) Lab Bonus
  2. opened listing in c:geo
  3. Menu => Ignore cache
  4. confirmed be careful
  5. nothing more happens, listing remains open
  6. to check if the Lab Bonus is still displayed on Live Map:
    • Menu => Caches around
    • selected (and saved) a Tradi nearby
    • displayed it in map
    • Menu => Enable Live
    • Menu => Show as list
  7. the Lab Bonus is still listed, thus has been most obviously shown on map, too

Meanwhile checked gc.com's ignore list: Although it seemed as if c:geo has done nothing at all, the Lab Bonus shows up there. Hence interaction with gc.com seems to work perfectly fine.

Nevertheless, the ignored Lab Bonus remains to show up in c:geo's map, even after leaving the map completely and re-entering it via c:geo's start page (to check I opened the previously stored Tradi neighbor and enabled Live Map). Even removing c:geo from Recent Apps does not make a difference, so this is most probably not a caching, but a DB problem ...?
